Born west of Toronto and raised in the city’s east end, Rosemary Adjoa Marfo would become Rosie Monday, a peaceful, though fiercely artistic presence. Receiving the name Adjoa – her Ghanaian parents’ cultural appreciation for their ‘Monday-born’ child – she has always embodied the free-spirited and bold energies these namesakes are said to inherit. It’s no surprise she found a voice and outlet in hip hop music, a place where she could speak as freely as she thought.

Since Rosie first heard music, she can remember feeling connected to it. From hearing her dad play Bob Marley every Sunday morning, to wondering how her mom connected with country music, and dancing to Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba in her parents’ shop; these experiences helped Rosie discover her musical perspective and foundation. Hearing Biggie and Nas booming out of her older brothers’ speakers however, solidified it.

At that point, Rosie was hooked…

…2Pac’s honesty and fiery attitude showed her a new freedom of expression; Missy made unique cool, helping her embrace her weirdness; Eve’s effortless mix of confidence, strength, and sex appeal showed her balanced style; Queen LaTifah’s unapologetic poise showed her how to be a boss on her own terms.

Rosie Monday’s music is an electric experience, with thumping bass-heavy beats and commanding lyrics. She’s conscious and present in each line, carefully balancing being thoughtful, yet unapologetic in her truth.

Some of Rosie’s career highlights are participating in Honey Jam 2015, being selected to Dalton Higgins’ Music Biz Bootcamp 2018, and performing at notable Toronto venues including MOD Club, Revival, Gladstone Hotel, The Drake Hotel, and The Great Hall.
